  1. An excellent book for a complete beginner with doves Review by Lizzie Scott

An excellent book for a complete beginner with doves. As well as practical advise on keeping birds and dovecotes it was enjoyable to read about the history of them. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  2. As an absolute beginner I can say there is no question that this book is definitely worth buying. Review by Mr R R Sargent

As an absolute beginner I can say there is no question that this book is definitely worth buying. In reading it I have had most of my queries answered and had the added interest of learning a great deal else besides. I hope that the second edition will have an index at the back because this would definitely improve the book and more information please. An approximate timetable for rearing the young and rather more precise information about what to do and when would be most useful. Most of us do have cats around and more information about how to protect squabs in wallcots and polecots could be helpful.Eg At what age do we need to move them before they flop out? Do they need a parent bird with them? (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  4. I found this book an excellent source of information and am still using it for information on a regular basis. Review by Andy Nott

I found this book an excellent source of information and am still using it for information on a regular basis. Reading it led to the purchase of a dovecote and I now have a flock of doves living in the garden, along with four young squabs. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  5. I have found it to be a very useful book for a beginner and also very interesting Review by MRS P J BOWLEY

I have found it to be a very useful book for a beginner and also very interesting too and I find I am regularly dipping in to it at each different stage of dove keeping and subsequent breeding. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

An excellent book which sets out the subject matter is a very readable fashion. I'm an absolute beginner and the contents have encouraged me to begin in earnest! Highly recommended. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  8. As this book was a gift, the person in question has found it to be the most Review by MR D ATACK

As this book was a gift, the person in question has found it to be the most comprehensive, literature available. Both in reference and useful information. Ideal for both beginer and professional alike. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  9. A flight of gorgeous white doves wheeling around my house and garden has been a dream that I have cherished for many years. Review by Stuart McConnell

A flight of gorgeous white doves wheeling around my house and garden has been a dream that I have cherished for many years. Having purchased the excellent 'Pigeons Doves & Dovecotes' book I have now been inspired to believe that I can actually achieve my dream. As a pensioner purchasing a purpose built polecote is out of the question (they are seriously expensive) but I have used the dimensions given in the book to build my own polecote. This weekend friends assisted in lifting the polecote onto its pole and now I am looking forward to purchasing my first breeding pair of doves. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

  10. This is a fine book for a beginner (which I am) seeking information to start a dovecote. Review by Russell Aiuto

This is a fine book for a beginner (which I am) seeking information to start a dovecote. The advice is clear and simple, and the illustrations helpful and gorgeous.

Two brief suggestions for future editions: (1) A drawing of a dovecote for amateur builders to follow would be helpful. (2) I'm not clear on how doves at liberty, i.e., occupants of a polecote or wallcote, are fed. One illustration shows a feeding table, but no mention is made of methods of feeding. Such information for aviaries is clear and complete.

All in all, a very fine book. I look forward to purchasing more Gold Cockerel books as my interests in avian husbandry develop. (Posted on 25/06/2009)
