I backpacked the Cotswalds in the UK and was facinated by the gates and stiles which separated the pathways. I have a farm in the USA, and ordered the book so I could build a stile on my land. I love the book, and the wonderful memories I have of Great Britain. (Posted on 25/06/2009)

This was a really intersting book and i couldn't put it down until i read the whole book 3 times, I was so fasinated by the history and time spent desigining stiles, I was very pleased to find this book and I now go stile spotting every weekend. I was truly amazed at the variety of different gates and stiles in this book. I am a regular rambler and am fascinated by the all the wonderful examples in this lovely, informative and fascinating book. I shall certainly be paying more attention to them in the future! (Posted on 25/06/2009)

Much thanks for the book. It is brilliantly produced and I'm extremely pleased to have been sent a copy.
In the past I have never taken any interest in five-bar gates, but the account of their history, and types of construction, I found fascinating and I shall, certainly, look more closely at them in the future.
The book is well set out. The line drawings and comments on the photos make the structures fit into their rural background in excellent fashion.
Also, at the dedication, at the front, showed his sensitivity which will be more appreciated by all true ramblers.
